According to the US Census Bureau, nearly one-third of the American workforce, and half of all information workers, are able to work from home. The number of people working partially or fully remote has been on the rise for years, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only accelerated this trend.
Earlier this month, UK-based startup network Founders Forum conducted a survey of hundreds of startup bosses, mostly based in the UK, to find out how they see the present and future of remote work. The infographic below, produced by Visual Capitalist, summarizes some of those responses.
While startups are by no means representative of the business world as a whole, this slice of data certainly provides more evidence that the practice of working from home is not going away and will only increase.
What does this mean for sourcing? Whatever kind of products your business deals with, as business expert Steven Selikoff noted at the recent global Sources Virtual Summit, “Consider how the products you source can make that workspace more effective and solve the problems people have when working from home.”
Those problems are highlighted in another infographic from Visual Capitalist, this time drawing on Buffer’s “State of Remote” report in June 2020.
