What home design trends are here to stay for 2021?

Modern kitchens

Tech-integrated kitchens are rising in popularity as smart home systems are becoming more common and affordable. Consumers are focused on increasing efficiency around the kitchen, and reducing their time cooking and cleaning.

Smart and connected kitchen appliances are gaining more traction as the application of the Internet of Things (IoT), also called the Cloud of Things (CoT), becomes more common. In terms of revenue, smart refrigerators are heavily dominating the market, while smart ovens dominate in terms of volume. The same trend is expected to persist until 2027, according to 360 Market Updates.

Home offices and study rooms

Remote working and distance learning saw a boom at the onset of the pandemic and will expand further in the years to come. In an article published by Vox, statistics showed that some 70 percent of the workforce will work remotely at least five days a month by the year 2025. Meanwhile, US-based Enterprise Technology Research (ETR) revealed that the percentage of employees permanently working from home is predicted to double this 2021. ETR’s survey showed that at present, about 72 percent of the interviewed companies’ total global workforce is currently working remotely.

Connectivity and other technological developments are among the trends shaping the home office market. The smart office furniture market is poised to grow by US$266.60 between 2020 and 2024, according to Research and Markets. Meanwhile, the non-tech global home office furniture market is set to grow at around 7.5 percent during 2020 to 2026.

Office furniture with sensors, non-decorated kitchenware, sofas, tables, chairs, drawers, and couches top today’s the list of the most in-demand home office furniture.

Home fitness rooms

Home gyms or fitness rooms are all the rage now as homeowners are transforming living rooms and bedrooms into their very own at-home gyms due stay-at-home orders.

Treadmills, stationary bikes, yoga products and smart mirrors are some of today’s most popular fitness products. The fitness equipment shipments are expected to exceed 14 million units by 2026 and the fitness equipment market’s anticipated growth between 2020 and 2026 is at four percent CAGR.

Smart mirrors, which track the health and analyze the skin of consumers, are also growing in popularity. By 2025, the global market is expected to reach $4,118.7 million as reported by the Allied Market Research.

Outdoor lighting

From solar-powered variants to LED types, the rising adoption of cost-efficient products are strengthening the growth of the outdoor lighting market. Homeowners are investing more in outdoor living spaces, brightening up gardens, landscapes, pools and yards as people spend more time at home now.

Statista’s data revealed that by 2030, the global outdoor lighting market is expected to rise to US$23.8 billion. In 2019, the global market was already valued at US$10.7 billion. Meanwhile, P&S Intelligence reported that LEDs are the fastest growing segment because of the growing adoption of energy-saving lighting solutions and the rising support from governments in the use of LEDs in countries like the US, India and China.
