Driving authentic trade despite the pandemic

The extraordinary trade disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic may have slowed economies around the world, but it has not dampened hopes for a swift, full recovery.

Having been involved in international trade for 50 years, Global Sources set out to maintain the links between buyers and suppliers, and help provide the market with much-needed supplies, especially for face masks, personal protective equipment (PPE) and hygiene products. The company has reached out to 34 provincial commerce bureaus in China to re-launch businesses and promote supplier readiness, says Vicki Kei, senior vice president for marketing. This while continuing to deliver a steady stream of timely information via industry news and analysis to enable uninterrupted sourcing.

In constant contact with its supplier community, Global Sources has been keeping buyers updated on the suppliers that have restarted manufacturing and returned online, and are prepared to receive overseas orders, says Lifestyle general manager Ronald Ng.

To respond to immediate sourcing needs, MATCH Express, a business matching service, was introduced in March. With a dedicated team that ensures communication lines are open 24/7, buyer inquiries reach suppliers directly and get a response within 24 to 48 hours.

And for a seamless sourcing experience, Global Sources re-introduced its mobile app in April, this time packing greater speed into a suite of more user-friendly features. Originally a practical companion during trade shows and a reliable online tool, the updated app allows access to millions of products – from the latest to the best-selling – and suppliers in the Greater China region and the rest of Asia from anywhere in the world.

Global Sources is also enabling global trade as a rewarding experience through the Sourcing Club, which is designed to make premium services available to active buyers. From signing up to taking various sourcing actions on GlobalSources.com, more benefits are unlocked by more activity.
