2020 has been a challenging year. With the entrance of 2021 comes new, exciting trends to watch out for.
Drawing inspiration from the last disruptive, tumultuous year, the color trends of 2021 reflect the optimism and apprehension of this time. Global color authority Pantone released its 2021 color trend predictions in recent weeks, naming Illuminating (a bright yellow hue) and Ultimate Gray as its 2021 Colors of the Year.
Choosing two colors only for the second time in 22 years, Pantone described the selected yellow and gray as independent but complementary. “The selection of two independent colors highlight how different elements come together to express a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting, conveying the idea that it’s not about one color or one person, it’s about more than one,” said Pantone Color Institute Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman.
She added that these hues are meant to represent unity, stability and hope. “It’s aspirational. We’re not there yet, but we’re aiming for that. We’re trying to get there. When the gray clouds disperse, we see the sunshine.”
“The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer,” added Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.
Expect these Pantone color trends to be popular and dominant in the fashion world. Now is a good time to start adding a yellow and gray ensemble in your 2021 fashion collection. Check out the products at globalsources.com.
