Design, material variety enriches Wenzhou's promotional bag supply

The second installment of this two-part series discusses the city’s promotional bag selection.

Benefitting from Wenzhou’s rich upstream network, promotional bag makers in the manufacturing hub offer a diverse range of products at competitive quotes. Designs can be adjusted according to buyers’ target unit price.

Shoulder, tote, shopping, novelty and handbags are available. In terms of materials used, customers will find releases in nonwoven and canvas fabrics, paper, PET, PP, PVC, leather and their combinations.

Nonwoven textile bags are the most popular, representing more than half of Wenzhou’s selection. The fabric is primarily preferred for ecological protection since most types are biodegradable. It is also breathable, strong, lightweight, fire-resistant and cost-effective. The mainstream variants are 70, 80 and 90gsm, but better alternatives in 130 and 180gsm can be employed. Silk-screening and pad printing are commonly carried out.

Paper-based models, which usually target the upscale segment, constitute 20 percent of supply. Fine art paper in 90, 120 and 200gsm is standard. Patterns are placed via 4-color offset printing.

PP, PET and PVC bags account for 20 percent of the output as well. They are often utilized for jewelry, garments, watches and perfume. Silk-screening, and transfer and offset printing are applicable.

PET and PVC offer good transparency and are suitable for high-quality multicolor printing. PP alternatives are the softest and least expensive of the three types. The materials, however, are not dissolvable. Similar to nonwoven fabric, canvas is generally considered environment-friendly. Releases in the input, however, are limited to the upscale market and make up less than 5 percent of the line. Pure cotton canvas is stronger and resists water better compared with variants in linen and cotton-linen blends.

Leather and mixed materials are often utilized for special-purpose models. Such pieces constitute a small part of Wenzhou’s selection and are not expected to increase in the months ahead. Genuine leather and cotton are the most expensive options, reaching two times the cost of nonwoven fabric. They are followed by cotton-linen and linen, synthetic leather, PET and PVC in descending order.

Releases in canvas, denim and animal skin are quoted above $1.50. The exteriors are protected with a film layer for water resistance. Additional compartments and pockets are typical. Midrange models go for $0.50 to $1.50. Such products are made of 80 to 150gsm high-density nonwoven fabric, PET, PVC or more than 180gsm fine art paper. Some pieces do not absorb water.

These upscale releases employ zipper, hook-and-loop and string closures. Various logo application methods can be adopted.

Low-end versions, on the other hand, come in basic designs without closures or protective surface treatments. They use less than 80 and 180gsm nonwoven fabric and paper, respectively. Prices do not reach $0.50.
