Makers are complementing function enhancements by introducing new designs, with vertical chassis one of the popular options.
- HD surveillance: Most products from China boast high-definition recording and playback. Entry-level models usually feature 4-channel D1 or 2-channel 720p video input. Mainstream units support 2 to 4-channel 1080p or 4 to 8-channel 720p. High-end versions are capable of 64-channel 720p or 128-channel D1 video. In terms of output, most releases have VGA and HDMI ports to deliver 1080p. Upscale variants incorporate multiplex HDMI ports for multichannel output.
- Greater storage capacity: The bulk of products have one or two SATA interfaces and up to 4TB capacity. Some makers are starting to introduce four or eight SATA ports with 4TB capacity on each port. Optional eSATA is available as well. In the high end, models support hot-swapping, RAID and multiplex SATA.
- Vertical chassis: Designs use 19in standard cabinets or desktop enclosures. Several new variants adopt vertical chassis instead for improved cooling and easier installation.
