Compound detection, all-in-one units lead R&D of door/window sensors

Makers are combining technologies and functions to enhance reliability and expand applications.

  • Combination technologies: China suppliers employ mixed platforms to improve reliability. New models are equipped with dual-sensor magnetic contacts, or a combination of magnetic and vibration sensors to reduce false alarms and detection errors. PIR and acoustic technologies are available.
  • All-in-one design: The trend for integrated and multifunction models addresses convenience. All-in-one variants incorporate a sensor, a control panel, LED indicator, an alarm siren and a battery. Some have a doorbell or other practical functions for added value.
  • Installation flexibility: Factoring in aesthetics and current home and building architecture, makers are introducing models that suit different types of doors and windows. They are offering split-sensor systems for rolling doors, flushbonading miniature types for sliding windows, and ceiling or wall-mount options for acoustic and PIR models. Recent releases also feature smooth contours instead of rigid housings common in previous selections.
  • Minority line: The door/window sensor segment will continue to occupy a minority position in the anti-intrusion and fire prevention industries.
