Higher sensitivity, dynamic range stressed in wide dynamic range cameras

An increasing number of wide dynamic range cameras are using DPS sensor and Sony Effio solution for higher resolution.

  • Widening adoption of DPS: More suppliers are using Pixim’s DPS solution in wide dynamic range cameras. Such models have a typical dynamic range of 102dB compared with 52dB in traditional CCD variants. The provider’s technical support and brand partnership program have heightened interest in the component.
  • Higher sensitivity with Sony Effio: Mainstream products adopt the Sony Super HAD CCD II sensor, which has 7dB higher sensitivity than the previous Super HAD version. The Effio platform, however, delivers even greater resolution, S/N ratio and color reproduction than the first. Horizontal resolution can reach 650 TVL and dynamic range 68dB.
  • Stable prices for CCD, DPS units: WDR cameras are still considered high-end. Makers forecast stable prices for CCD and DPS variants in 1H12, and slightly lower quotes for Effio types.
  • Sales & export forecasts: WDR models corner only 3 percent of China’s total output of security cameras due to higher price and niche application. Because of the merits of the product, however, suppliers expect stronger demand in 1H12, with 15 and 25 percent growth projected in sales and exports, respectively.
