Global Sources top 20 electronics (March 2013): Bigger, smarter smartphones

Early-spring 2013 sourcing for consumer electronics on centered on smartphones. The line's popularity continues to grow, with "smarter" technology, larger screens and enhanced portability piqueing the interest of volume buyers and end-users alike.

Accessories, meanwhile, continue to ride on the proliferation of portable handheld electronics. Bluetooth speakers caught the eye of many volume importers in March and iPhone add-ons remain favorites.

The wireless technology is contributing to the evolving manner people play music, growing increasingly mobile with the move from CD and stand-alone MP3 players to iDevices, smartphones and tablet PCs. In just a year, buyer inquiries on for Bluetooth Speakers ballooned by more than 400 percent.

Abundant on-line A/V resources, low costs and higher flexibility are driving the expansion of set-top boxes, while the use of Android OS is driving the category into the mainstream. This is reflected in buyer activity in March 2013 when inquiries tripled YoY.
