The latest releases support up 1,200W and use imported components. Compact models target the DIY market.
- Corded units lead: The category continues to dominate, accounting for almost 80 percent of China’s total output. These have an input power ranging from 500 to 1,200W and 220 to 240V, with no-load speed reaching 3,000rpm. The maximum drilling diameters in steel, wood and concrete are 13, 30 and 16mm, respectively, and chucks from 1.5 to 20mm. Most of the products support stepless speed regulation, forward and reverse rotation switch, and operation lock. Cordless types are equipped with 12, 14.4 or 18V Li-ion or NiMH batteries.
- Enhanced efficiency & user convenience: Makers are adopting bearings, batteries and motor parts from Japan and Europe to improve product performance and durability. A Li-ion battery from Kawasaki lasts about 1,000 cycles, double the life span of most local counterparts. More new models integrate an impact function and a 2-speed gear box to match various drilling and driving needs. Upscale products come with a depth gauge and self-tightening chuck.
- Compact drills: Smaller designs for DIY applications are gaining popularity. These typically measure 17x21cm and weigh 1 or 2kg. They have up to 600W power rating and are packaged with five to 20 drill bits.
