Nonwoven fabric, canvas, cotton, PET and PVC are among the typical choices from China.
Nonwoven fabric is currently the material of choice for China's promotional bag suppliers. It boasts several advantages, chief among which is the ability to dissolve in 90 days when placed outdoors for disposal. The adoption of the input comes amid strong environmental consciousness in the major overseas markets.
Further, nonwoven fabric resists moisture and fire, and is breathable, lightweight, nontoxic and recyclable. The textile can also retain rich colors.
This durable material has a typical life span of five years. When held against flame, it does not generate a noxious odor.
Various types of nonwoven fabric are available. These are usually classified according to weight. The most popular options are 70, 80 and 90g, although the range is from 35 to more than 100g.
Canvas is another alternative for suppliers of the line. It is the strongest material frequently utilized and has good water resistance.
Cotton is an environment-friendly substitute. Its high natural liquid-absorption ability, however, restricts potential usage and necessitates complicated logo-application techniques to ensure even patterns.
PET and PVC promotional bags have strong perceived value. The limited strength characteristics make products suitable only for lightweight items such as jewelry, garments, watches and perfume. These materials offer good water resistance, and enable silk-screening, and pad, transfer and offset printing. Of the available types, however, they are the least eco-friendly.
Many companies combine inputs or apply treatments to their releases to improve physical attributes. A film layer that inhibits water absorption, for example, is employed on some cotton and canvas models.
Promotional bags & prices
Promotional bags at all price segments are available from suppliers in China. In the low end, models are quoted at less than $0.30. These are mostly made of thin and lightweight PP fabric, although select products come in paper. Regardless of material, closures and coatings that expand durability or usability are not utilized. Designs are simple.
Midrange pieces go for $0.30 to $0.80. Employing 50 to 100g nonwoven PP, they sometimes bear a film layer to raise water resistance, and have zippers, hook-and-loop and string closures. Various logo-application methods are available.
Prices for upscale models start at $0.90. Made of cotton, canvas, denim or high-density nonwoven PP, these generally have more compartments and pockets than less expensive releases, and may come in nonstandard shapes.
The closure types are similar to those of midrange pieces, although an external film layer is standard.
Regardless of segment, the choice of closure is dependent on bag design and material.
The hook-and-loop type, for example, is commonly seen in nonwoven, PET and PVC products that have flat surfaces providing strong support for the construction. Button and snap variants, on the other hand, are used on canvas and cotton bags where they can be tightly fixed on the fabric surface.
Zippers are often employed in rectangular open models in any input. String is utilized in open bags with round and rectangular configurations.
For designs, basic constructions dominate because they require only minimal materials and simple procedures. To satisfy demand for greater usability, compartments and pockets may be added.
At some companies, visual appeal is boosted via nonstandard shapes such as mobile phone or cartoon figure. Irregular contours, however, can negatively impact ergonomics. This has led to the growing popularity of a unique top layer instead for novelty.
Prices of promotional bags from China are affected by several factors, including raw material quality, size, closure type and applied treatments. For 5,000 pieces of a 50x42x3cm model, the quote is $1.50 if made of pure cotton and $0.90 if 190 tex polyester. Nonwoven PP products are $0.70, $0.60 and $0.45 for the 90, 80 and 35g variants, respectively.
Other determinants are the exchange rate, local inflation figures, and labor and material costs. Typically seen as the most significant, the first went up about 3 percent last year and is expected to rise more than 5 percent further in coming months. Suppliers foresee quote increases of 5 to 10 percent.
To remain competitive, the majority of makers are highlighting better products and services. At Xiamen Probtain Nonwoven Co. Ltd, the emphasis is on new environment-friendly materials. One of its latest releases is in PET derived from mineral water bottles.
Wenzhou Yabao Printing Co. Ltd has developed several series for various purposes. Picnic bags that combine 210d polyester, PE sponge and PVC film retain heat and, compared with other pieces, are larger, and have stronger and wider shoulder straps.
Select promotional garment bags from Shanghai Jiajin Intl Trading Co. Ltd (Shanghai Chenhe Bag Fty) are made of DuPont ComforMax. Although more expensive than alternatives, the material is expected to rise in popularity because of its better performance attributes.
Makers utilize a range of logo-application techniques according to order quantity, and logo size, color and structure. Many perform this in-house, but subcontracting is an option.
Silk-screening is the most popular and price-competitive. Suitable for nearly all materials, it can be used for large and small orders, and logos in any size. Pad printing is typical for small prints. It imparts multicolor patterns but is costlier than silk-screening. Hot stamping adds dimensional effects at a relatively premium rate.
