The latest models use materials from overseas, and are specially treated to withstand shrinkage, stains and washing.
- Foreign textiles: Many makers are procuring materials overseas to ensure quality. Wool, for instance, is sourced from Italy and the UK. Suppliers of upscale suits import cashmere from New Zealand, while functional textiles such as wool-polyester or -viscose blends come from Taiwan. India and Southeast Asia are the main providers of natural fibers, including cotton, hemp and linen.
- Easy-to-care models: Manufacturers are releasing high-end garments that are machine-washable, water-rinsable and wrinkle-resistant. These use imported wool fibers and are treated to withstand shrinkage and stains.
- Style & cut: Single-breasted coats have notch lapels, while double-breasted jackets adopt peak collars. Some formal suits feature shawl lapels. Two or three buttons are utilized for the closure. For the trousers, single-pleated versions that have straight legs dominate. These come with zipper and button closures, cuffed bottoms, and two slant side and welt rear pockets.
