Models also combine 3D, Internet, entertainment and OTT content functionality.
- Supply slowly rising: Key China manufacturers of flat-panel TVs have started joining the UHDTV bandwagon. Hisense, Haier, Konka, Skyworth, Changhong and TCL rolled out their initial products at the 2013 CES. These have screens measuring 50 to 110in. More tier 2 companies such as Kontech have launched their own units. Industry watchers expect output to continue climbing in the months ahead to match the anticipated increase in global demand.
- Internet & smart TV features: With TVs positioned at the high end, makers are emphasizing Internet, smart TV and 3D capability. Many models feature flicker-free 3D display with 100 or 120Hz refresh rate. Products support multicore Arm processors, Android 4.0 or higher, OTT content playback, games and other entertainment functions. Wi-Fi and RJ-45 interface are standard as well.
- Declining prices: Recent decreases in LCD panel costs and innovations by Taiwan panel manufacturers such as Innolux and AU Optronics are pushing down FOB quotes. Some China makers are pricing their 50in units below $1,000 to compete with global leaders Sony, LG and Samsung.
