Gaming optical mice makers boost resolution, tracking speed

New models can support more than 5,000cpi and 80in/s tracking speed.

TOP TRENDS

  • Wired types still rule: Wired models continue to lead in China with a 60 to 70 percent share of the total supply of gaming optical mice. Production of wireless variants, however, is picking up momentum, with 2.4GHz RF items spurring growth.
  • Higher resolution, faster tracking speed: Several suppliers have released products supporting more than 5,000cpi and 80in/s. R&D efforts to improve product performance emphasize the use of high-quality sensors. A growing number of makers are turning to Avago and PixArt for such solutions. They are also customizing software to allow programmable functions.
  • Novelty designs: Cartoon and toy themes are expanding the design options for the line. Releases mostly come in ABS casings with polished spray paint. They use red, blue, green or multicolor LEDs.
