• Design: Women’s panties from China come mostly in bikini, hipster, boy shorts and G-string styles. Lace and seamless designs are offered in addition to standard models.
• Improved performance: To boost product quality, makers are adopting nature-based materials such as bamboo rayon and modal. The former is well-known for its inherent anti-bacterial property. Modal is similar to cotton, although more moisture-absorbent and shrink-resistant. Fabrics treated to withstand harmful microorganisms are also employed. Shaping variants have up to 30 percent spandex content, which helps keep the abdomen flat and streamline the hips.
• Aesthetics: The latest pairs come in a range of colors. Allover printed patterns, including florals, polka dots and leopard spots, continue to be popular. Some releases highlight a cartoon character motif at the back.
• Price & revenue forecast: The cost of materials and labor is expected to drive quotes up in coming months. Suppliers aim to keep increases within 5 percent. Many businesses are bracing for flat sales in 2012.
